The Beginning

I’m Edgar, founder of EdgruSCAPE, an aquascaping and aquarium care studio based in Central Switzerland.

My fascination with aquatic life began in childhood — observing fish, experimenting with aquariums, and discovering how delicate ecosystems evolve over time. What started as curiosity gradually grew into a passion for aquascaping, where science, creativity, and patience come together to shape living underwater landscapes.

Scientific Background

My academic background strengthens this approach. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Biotechnology) and a Master of Science in Biology, with a focus on Business and Management.

This combination allows me to approach aquariums from both scientific and creative perspectives — understanding the biological processes that support a stable ecosystem while providing structured, reliable and professional service to clients.

Professional Development & Industry Experience

Aquascaping is an evolving discipline, and I believe continuous learning is essential.

I have developed my skills through hands-on workshops and direct exchange with experienced aquascapers, including the ADA Pro Aquascaping Workshop with Yusuke Homma at GreenAqua in Hungary and an Aquascaping Workshop with Yuri Yutyaev at AquaTrend in Switzerland.

I also regularly engage with the wider aquarium industry through major professional events, including Interzoo 2026 in Germany and AcquariaItalia 2026 in Italy, where I attended the MJ Aquascaping × Seachem workshop.

These experiences continually expand my understanding of aquascape composition, plant care, aquarium technology, equipment, and modern approaches to creating healthy aquatic ecosystems — knowledge I bring into my own projects and client work.

Philosophy & Approach

EdgruSCAPE is my underwater canvas — part zen garden, part experimental lab.

My approach combines aesthetics, biology, and sustainability to create aquariums that are not only visually striking, but also healthy, stable and enjoyable over the long term.

Rather than treating an aquarium as decoration alone, I focus on building and maintaining a living ecosystem. By considering water chemistry, plant growth, filtration, lighting and livestock balance together, each aquarium can develop into a clear, healthy and naturally balanced environment.
